5* Review: ‘Rock Hard’ by Nalini Singh (A Rock Kiss Novel)

Rock Hard cover

Blurb:

In New York Times Bestselling author Nalini Singh’s newest contemporary romance, passion ignites between a gorgeous, sinfully sexy man who built himself up from nothing and a shy woman who has a terrible secret in her past…

Wealthy businessman Gabriel Bishop rules the boardroom with the same determination and ruthlessness that made him a rock star on the rugby field. He knows what he wants, and he’ll go after it no-holds-barred.

And what he wants is Charlotte Baird.

Charlotte knows she’s a mouse. Emotionally scarred and painfully shy, she just wants to do her job and remain as invisible as possible. But the new CEO—a brilliant, broad-shouldered T-Rex of a man who growls and storms through the office, leaving carnage in his wake—clearly has other plans. Plans that may be equal parts business and bedroom.

If Charlotte intends to survive this battle of wits and hearts, the mouse will have to learn to wrangle the T-Rex. Game on.

My Review:

I must admit to a little fist pump when I got the email from Netgalley saying I could review this book, I’m a bit sad I know, but I love Nalini Singh so….. what can I say? I was excited. I’m very happy to say I wasn’t disappointed at all, not even a smidgen. I devoured this book in two sittings. It was only two instead of one because my other half physically removed the kindle from my hands at midnight with the words, “Sleep forgodsake!”

So the following morning I woke up, sat up and immediately reached for my kindle with the sole thought of I have to read as much as I can before the kids get up…

It’s been a while since I felt so drawn to a book, probably since I last read a new book by Nalini Singh.

Ok, so to the book – ‘Rock Hard’ – well it’s awesome! I can’t even tease you, it’s brilliant. It made me laugh, it made me cry and it’s really, really sexy. Nalini has written two fantastic characters in Charlotte and Gabriel. Their chemistry is electric from the start. There’s wonderful banter and the development of their relationship feels natural and true.

Both characters have baggage but the story mainly focuses on Charlotte’s. A past incident has seriously dented her self-confidence, but I never saw her as weak and loved watching her journey towards rediscovering her kick-ass side.

I love a strong female character and no-one writes them better than Nalini Singh. If you’re a fan you’ll already know about Elena, Honor and Ash in the Guild Hunter Novels and Sascha, Faith and Brenna in the Psy-Changeling series, just to name a few.

Charlotte has to be strong to stand up against Gabriel who is “a force of nature”, but oh god, what a force of nature! He is absolutely gorgeous inside and out. The story is written from both characters point of view so we know exactly how he feels about our lovely Charlotte. I’ve got to say, he’s way up there with my favourite Nalini male characters – and that’s saying a lot when you consider Raphael and Dmitri, Lucas and Hawke…. ok, bringing it back… *cough* right yeah, so, Gabriel is a beautiful physical specimen as well as having a very big, very generous heart. I loved him, a lot. He pushes her buttons in all the right ways and we just sit back and watch her bloom under his attention. She fights him a bit, because any self-respecting woman would, right? But when they finally come together it is a thing of beauty and it is hot, I mean steamy hot. I liked that bit a lot too 😉

There is no doubt that Gabriel is an alpha male, he likes to get his own way, always thinks he’s right…. but he knows he has to be patient if he’s going to get what he wants, and he wants Charlotte. So much, that he puts her needs before his own and ultimately that’s what makes him so beautiful and sexy for me.

So, in conclusion I give Rock Hard five very shiny, very beautiful stars. I loved it and I hope you do too.
