I love food.
I love talking about it, cooking it and most of all eating it! This is a family thing. My Mum’s a fantastic cook and we’ve always enjoyed great food at home and loved to eat out.
Now I have two kids and my partner and I are passing that same excitement onto them. They love to eat out and to try foods from different countries. Nothing gets a flurry of excitement like when I announce it’s Fajitas for dinner!
So when I was at university and for a few years after when I moved to another country, I waitressed to earn money while I studied. I’m not going to lie, waitressing is bloody hard work and really punishing on the feet (mine used to tingle weirdly the next morning after a long shift) but I loved it all the same.
There’s a real buzz about a successful restaurant. The chef’s can be temperamental (I’ve seen dinner plates thrown at waitresses), the customers demanding and the bar staff flirtatious. As far I was concerned it was a melting pot of interesting, exciting people and food – I loved it.
When I started to think about writing a longer story, setting it in a restaurant was the first thing I thought of. Stick to what you know, right? Plus I have worked with some sexy chefs in the past, so the character of Jack is loosely modelled on someone I used to know, but only in appearance. Unfortunately my time working in a restaurant wasn’t half as sexually exciting as Ellie’s in A Taste For Three 😉
Professional cooking is a male dominated world for the most part, I enjoyed writing about a female chef. Erin is a strong and determined character – I like her a lot. I hope you do too.
Jack and Nate, well they’re sexy and dirty in the best possible way. What’s not to love about that?!
